Educational aspirations of second generetion of Muslims in the Czech Republic: case study

The bachelor thesis deals with educational aspiration of the second generation of Muslims living in the Czech Republic, both children and parents. The main goal of the bachelor thesis is to map the area of educational aspirations of children and their parents towards children. The thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part is split into two parts: the first part deals with the definition of basic concepts, as well as social reproduction or factors of influence, especially the family environment and the school environment, as well as (their) own intellectual abilities or the influence of their peers. The second part deals with Muslims, particulary focusing on the facts regarding a different cultural environment. The empirical part uses qualitative research, concretely case studies, mainly focusing on family consisted of a mother, father, son and daughter. Through an interview with the actors the information had been gathered, which helped with answering research related questions. These questions were created with the intention of clarifying the stated goal of the thesis. Factors determining educational aspirations in the Czech Republic after 1989

5 Abstract In the bachelor thesis are described factors, which take part in forming of educational aspirations after 1989. Forming factors of educational aspirations are identified in the context of changes, which were in the Czech society during the last 25 years. The opening chapters are focused on historical context of forming educational aspirations. Factors are examined on the three levels: structural, individual and contextual. Forming factors are studied by available researches from the Czech republic and the point of view of their forming is enriched by knowledge from foreign researches. The thesis contains discussion about findings and the search of available studies, which contribute to aknowledgement of forming factors of educational aspirations. DECISION MAKING PROCESS OF STUDENTS'CHOICE OF APPRENTICESHIP AS A TYPE OF EDUCATIONAL PATHWAY

This bachelor thesis is focused on decision making process of students from working-class families' choice of apprenticeship as a type of educational pathway. The theory part outlines the main problems connected with the contemporary Czech apprenticeship, and then places the issue of choice of apprenticeship into the context of the reproduction of educational inequalities and introduces main theoretical approaches to the study of educational inequalities and their reproduction. On the basis of research based on qualitative method of understanding interviews then shows that apprenticeship are perceived by students from working-class families as an advantageous, compared to other educational pathways completely equivalent, and therefore in many ways rational choice. Students from working-class families consider the apprenticeships of secondary vocational schools as a mediator which would enable them to pursue a specifically defined profession, while their main advantage is seen in their practical focus.
University studies without a title - drop-out phenomenon in the context of massification

Barbora Votavová ISS FSV UK Diploma thesis abstract University career without a degree - drop-out phenomenon in the context of university education massification The thesis focuses on the phenomenon of not finishing university in the context of masification of tertiary education and changign character of labour market. Unlike educational reproduction and mobility, that is often studied in Czech context, only a couple of texts focus on the phenomenon of not finishing. This text therefore tries to open this topic by analyzing experiences and narration of those who leave university before getting a degree. Based on interviews with drop-outs, it searches for the specific aspects of their educational trajectories. It attempts to reconstruct the meanings that they ascribe various parts, moments and characteristics of their own educational trajectories. The thesis searches answers to basic questions about the significance and meaning of education, trajectories and aspects influencing the specific shape of the trajectory and identify areas that are relevant for the drop-out topic. Young women - the college graduates, their working aspirations and ideas about family life

This thesis deals with the women-graduates, their working aspirations and their conception of a family life. In the theoretical part the university education of Czech women is described, in terms of historical development and also and the current situation of the Czech universities, in terms of number of women studying there. In the next part the attention is paid to the women's level of education aspirations and their motivation for studying. Students usually finish their education during the period of life, which is referred to as a young adulthood according to the evolutionary psychology. The thesis deals with the transition of young people into adulthood and describes the specifics of this period, from the perspective of women. Young people in particular enter into their working life, accept their new job role and become independent. Young woman is also expected to become mother after finishing her education. Today's young women must solve the dilemma. They have to decide for their work or for their maternal role. Usually they try to harmonize them. In the practical section the opinions of four young women - graduates are presented. Their attitudes to this life period were found out by means of the depth interview. Women mainly described the period of the university study and their motivation for studying. The other topics of the interview was the moment of graduation and their entry into working life. Finally the process of achieving independence from parents was found out, also the conception of establishing their own families, their maternal role and the idea about coordination this role with their job aspirations.
